Dewey Cherokee Cultural Community Offers Monthly Cultural Events and Community Services

Tom Davis
The Dewey Cherokee Cultural Community is inviting the public to participate in monthly events focused on preserving and celebrating Cherokee heritage.
Founded in 2022, the center is located in a renovated church building on Durham Road and serves as a hub for cultural education and community connection. The group hosts free monthly programs, including the “Walking in Balance” series led by Abraham Bearpaw, which weaves Cherokee traditions into modern life. The next session will be held July 2 at 6 p.m. and includes a hands-on stickball stick-making project. Dinner is provided.
In addition to first-Wednesday gatherings, the group also holds monthly potlucks on the third Thursday at 6 p.m., often featuring guest speakers and traditional crafts.
The facility, which includes a full kitchen and new outdoor pavilion, is available for rentals and is family-friendly. Cherokee Nation career and human services offices are also on-site during weekdays.
More information is available on the Dewey Cherokee Cultural Community Facebook page.
