Copan Man Facing Strangulation Charge

A Copan man is facing felony charges after allegedly strangling someone.
47-year-old Steven Long was charged on Tuesday with domestic assault and battery by strangulation, two counts of domestic abuse by assault and battery and malicious injury to property.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, on Nov. 16, 2024, Long allegedly pushed the victim against the refrigerator and began to strangle them. Long allegedly threw the victim to the ground inside the residence and kicked the victim in the ribs.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Long allegedly broke a lamp and a wall shelf during the incident. When the victim attempted to leave, Long allegedly caught them, threw the victim down the front steps and continued to hit the victim. Long allegedly took the victim's phone and threatened to kill them.
A warrant was issued for Long's arrest in Dec. 2024.
Long has a previous felony conviction in 2020 for possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.
Long will appear in court again on June 13 at 9 a.m. He posted his bond.
