Celebrating Small Town America and the historic town of Dewey, Joe Sears with the historic Dewey Hotel announced on COMMUNITY CONNECTION, that the hotel is presenting Dewey's Got Talent on Saturday, June 14, at 6pm in front of the hotel.

Joe said, "at the Dewey Hotel Museum, the last couple of years we've been trying to come up with plans to promote the hotel and give it an existence like it used to have, you know, a high profile for Dewey and Dewey's just a wonderful small town, but the center of it has always been the Dewey Hotel Museum." He added, "From the very beginning, Jake Bartles and his wife, Nanny Journeycakes, built that hotel and they are famous for moving his store from Bartlesville on a track with oxen and rollers and it took him 88 days to get it up there. I tell tourists up there that it was a high-end grocery store for its day."

The town of Dewey was founded and named after Admiral Dewey from the Battle of Manila which took place as the Bartles were building the hotel. The hotel became the center point of early day history in the area and one of the few big things that's preserved in our local history.  Jake Bartles was a revered man. He was the squire and a Civil War veteran.

As for Dewey's Got Talent, the hotel board wanted to do it last year, but according to Joe, "It was so dang hot and it was too late." He added," In the spring, we started our campaign for Dewey's Got Talent and it's a talent show that takes place on June 14th, Flag Day, and we're not going to have a parade. I think that's in the future, but the city of Dewey came up with some prize money to help us produce the talent show and so the city and the hotel are going to put on this talent show, but for contestants, it can only be Dewey residents."

If you want to participate, you must live in Dewey and you must visit the Dewey Hotel to fill out the short form in order to enter. There is no fee.
