A two-vehicle crash just south of Chelsea left one woman dead and another injured Thursday morning, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The collision happened around 10:33 a.m. on State Highway 28, about three miles south of Chelsea in Rogers County. Authorities say a 2020 Subaru Forester driven by 60-year-old Frances Altman of Chelsea pulled out from a private drive and into the path of an oncoming 2014 Ram 2500 pickup.

The Ram, driven by 30-year-old Paige Webster, also of Chelsea, struck the Subaru on the driver’s side door. Both vehicles came to a stop on the southbound shoulder of the highway.

Altman was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Pafford EMS. Emergency crews from the Foyil Fire Department used a Hurst tool to extricate her from the vehicle.

Webster was taken by ambulance to Hillcrest Hospital in Claremore, where she was treated for minor abrasions and chest soreness. She was later released.

Investigators said the cause of the crash was Altman's failure to yield while entering the highway from a private drive.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
