Swinging Bridge in Pawhuska Needing Repairs

Ty Loftis
The Pawhuska City Council held a special meeting on Thursday evening. Among items up for discussion was what should be done with Pawhuska's swinging bridge, which City Manager Jerry Eubanks has shut down due to safety concerns. In addition to that, Eubanks said it has been somewhat unclear who owns the bridge, rather it be the county or the City of Pawhuska.
Eubanks said they have found the deed showing that the county and city own the property on each side of the bridge. Eubanks goes into the backstory of how that came to be.
Eubanks explains just how unsafe it is to get on and cross the swinging bridge in its current state.
The swinging bridge is in need of repair, but Eubanks says it is important to make the necessary repairs to get it back to its original form.
After Eubanks recently closed the bridge, he said it didn't take 12 hours until someone tore through the chain link fence and re-opened it. In working with the county, Eubanks spoke with District One Commissioner Anthony Hudson and he said they are determined to find a way to keep the bridge closed in the meantime.
