OKWU Basketball Splits Saturday With York

Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball split with York University in Nebraska on Saturday. The women lost a close one, 68-64, the men dominated again, 90-64.
 
The Lady Eagles saw some offensive struggles throughout the game but found ways to capitalize off of solid defense. OKWU forced 23 turnovers but couldn’t find the knockout punch late. The Lady Eagles trailed by five at halftime, 36-31.
 
OKWU made a push late in the fourth quarter to cut into their largest deficit of the game, which stood at 13 points with around two minutes to play. Haley Meely made this three-pointer to get the Lady Eagles within five.
 
A Katelyn Penner free throw made it a four point game, but that’s as close as OKWU could make it. Meely led all scorers with 22 points.
 
The Lady Eagles with the loss drop to 12-14 overall and 9-11 in the KCAC.
 
The OKWU men completed their season sweep of York and kept the top spot in the KCAC as they dominated on the road to keep their winning streak alive.
 
Offense was the theme for the Eagles. They scored 51 points in the first half and shot 52% from the field in the game. OKWU was 9-20 from the outside.
 
Dylan Philip led the way off the bench shooting 4-4 from three-point range putting up 12. He made this one early in the second half to put OKWU up 22.
 
The OKWU men extend the win streak to 11 straight. They are 20-6 on the season with a 17-3 conference record.
 
Both OKWU teams will return on Wednesday for a road trip to Springfield, Missouri to take on Evangel University. The trip will be the final road game this season. The women’s game will tip-off first at 5:30 p.m. with the men to follow at 7:30 p.m.
