Several local high school basketball teams will restart play on Friday, with most being back in action early next week.

Copan is hoping to build off a blowout victory over Bluejacket just before the winter break. Copan’s young core isn’t so young anymore. Most of the Hornet athletes that have helped transform the Copan athletic department are now juniors.

With a couple years of growth, head coach Kolton Stacy says this group has gotten more out of the holiday layoff than they had the past few years.

Offense is still one of the main areas of concern. Copan scored 60 points in the win over Bluejacket. That was the second most points the Hornets have scored in a game so far this year.

Stacy says that his team’s confidence level needs to stay high to consistently knock down shots.

Copan heads to South Coffeyville for a local matchup on Tuesday of next week. Then the Hornets go to Cherokee for a Tournament on Thursday through Saturday of next week.
