Best of 2024: Copan Football Excels
As we continue our look back at the year that was in 2024, as we go over the best local sports stories from the past calendar year – Today...
We go up north to Copan this past fall, where for the first time in 16 years, the Hornets had a first round home football playoff game.
Despite a first round loss to Cherokee, that doesn't take away from an impressive 8-2 regular season.
The Hornets were able to accomplish this feat after moving up in classification late in the game.
After re-shuffling took place over the spring, head coach Marshall Foreman's bunch ended up in Class B-II instead of Class C. The move also changed the Hornet’s District.
Foreman says they adjusted without any issues.
The Hornets won seven of their first eight games to begin the season. The run through late October included a string of four of five games where Copan scored 50-points or more.
One of those wins was a 50-6 victory over Wesleyan Christian School. The win was the first for the Hornets since 2010.
Foreman talks about beating the team only 14 miles away.
Copan only graduates three seniors in Jacob Powell, Gavin Scott and Carson Woodworth.
With a large senior class returning, it is expected Copan will have around 20 guys on the roster in 2025.
