Copan Football Future Bright
Let’s start to recap some of the high school football teams who had their seasons end this past weekend in the first round of the playoffs.
Copan had some of the highest expectations into the playoffs after an 8-2 regular season. The Hornets hosted their first playoff game since 2008.
Cherokee topped the Hornets 36-8.
The game was closer than the final score would appear. Copan head coach Marshall Foreman says some uncharacteristic mistakes put the Hornets behind the eight ball early.
Copan moved up a classification this past fall. The Hornets had been in Class C for the past decade and were set to be in Class C again until the late changes made by the OSSAA after the private school’s lawsuit in the spring. All that added up to Copan in Class B-II this fall.
Foreman says his guys adjusted with no issue.
Copan had just three seniors on this year’s roster. Jacob Powell was a move-in last year and spent a couple years in the program. Gavin Scott was a consummate leader. And Carson Woodworth was a four-year starter.
Copan should have upwards of 20 guys on next year’s roster with a large senior class.
