Bartlesville High football will look to bounce back on the road at Claremore in game No. 2 of 2024 on Friday night.

BHS lost 49-24 at Newcastle this past Thursday night. It was a tough night hopefully full of lessons for a new crop of starters for the Bruins. BHS is breaking in about eight new guys on defense and five on offense.

Bartlesville has lost its last four non-District games, dating back to an 0-3 start to the season a year ago. Despite the winless non-District, BHS still competed for a District title last year.

Head coach Harry Wright says ultimately these non-District games are an appetizer for the playoff-positioning contests later this season.

Claremore is coming off one of its best seasons in recent memory. The Zebras went 11-2 on the way to a 5A State Semifinal appearance last year. Claremore lost almost all its offense to graduation but returns about half of the defense.

Wright talks about keys for a Bruin victory on Friday night.

Claremore beat Bartlesville by one point a year ago in the Bruins season opener, 28-27.
