The Tom Mix Museum and the Dewey Hotel Museum are hosting some events for the entire family on the Fourth of July.

Appearing on COMMUNITY CONNECTION, Joe Sears brought along some of the new Tom Mix Gunfighters, Robert "Doc" Platner and Karen Tonen.

Joe said a Tom Mix Gunfighter will shoot his pistol to begin the FFA Marathon. Then, you can watch the Tom Mix Gunfighters in action at 10am with a comedy/drama shoot-out scenario in front of the historic Dewey Hotel Museum.

Prior to the gunfight, the actors will show the audience their guns and will demonstrate that each gun is filled with blanks.

Later, Dianne Fallis will be telling stories at the historic Dewey Museum about Dewey Roundup that was the 3rd largest rodeo around 1908-1949.

Tom Mix's movie career spanned 26 years from 1909 through 1935. At various times he was under contract with Selig, Fox, Film Booking Office, Universal and Mascot.

In all, he made 336 feature films, produced 88, wrote 71 and directed 117. Tom made only 9 sound feature films and the 15-chapter serial "Miracle Rider."

Tom Mix's movies were famous for quick action and daredevil stunts. Tom and Tony, his horse, performed their own stunts. Tom was a superb athlete and kept himself in good physical condition.

He pioneered many of the early movie stunts. There were no trick cameras or fake scenes were used because of the limited shooting budgets.
