The Bartlesville City Council approved Monday changing the name of a portion of a road in honor of a city council member who died unexpectedly earlier this year.

The east-west segment of Oak Park Road as it runs through the Oak Wood Addition will be named Roane Road in honor of former Ward 4 Councilor Billie Roane. She passed away suddenly in April after a brief illness and called the Oak Park neighborhood home.

The Oak Wood Addition is currently under construction by Arcadian Housing, with a planned development of more than 100 single-family residences. Bartlesville Community Development Director Larry Curtis says the developers suggested renaming the portion of the street in honor of Roane.

Vice Mayor Jim Curd and Councilors Loren Roszel and Quinn Shipper approved the name change. Mayor Dale Copeland and Councilor Trevor Dorsey were absent from Monday's meeting.

Curd and Roszel said the name change was fitting to honor Roane for her commitment to the Oak Park neighborhood.
