A Bartlesville man turned himself in Wednesday on an arrest warrant that alleges domestic abuse.

49-year-old John Alan Pannell is facing one felony charge of domestic assault and battery by strangulation. According to an affidavit, Bartlesville police responded to a call from a domestic violence resource center on June 7 to speak with the alleged victim in this case.

The victim reportedly told police that on June 2, she and Pannell were having a heated discussion about finances, when Pannell stopped answering questions and went into another room away from the victim. The victim told police she began banging on the door to the room, when all the sudden the door "flew open" and Pannell allegedly "charged at her."

The victim alleges that Pannell pushed her onto a bed and put his arm around the victim's neck, using his body weight to hold the victim down.

The District Attorney's office filed the felony assault charge against Pannell on June 11 and an arrest warrant was issued. Pannell turned himself in to authorities on June 12 and posted a $25,000 bond.

He appeared in Washington County Court on June 12. His next court date July 19.
