An all female air race will be coming through Bartlesville in the coming days. The Bartlesville Municipal Airport is one of eight stops during the 47th annual Air Race Classic, a 2,600-mile competition that starts in Illinois and ends in Colorado. Bartlesville is the seventh stop along the route. Airport Director Mike Richardson details the upcoming event:

“This all women’s air race traces its history back to the Women’s Air Derby in 1929, which featured Amelia Earhart. Nearly 50 airplanes are registered for the race and will take off from Carbondale 30 seconds apart.”

The first plane is expected to arrive on Wednesday, June 19th and the last plane is expected to leave on Friday, June 21st. The public is invited to take in the action.
