The Washington County Commissioners signed a memorandum of understanding Monday between the Sheriff's Office and Crime Stoppers in hopes of recieving additional funding to combat human trafficking.

The memorandum will allow Crime Stoppers to collaborate with the Sheriff's Office and potentially receive a grant to fight human trafficking and child exploitation.

Sheriff Scott Owen explains.

According to the Fusion Center for Combating Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation in Oklahoma, the state witnessed approximately 880 reported cases of human trafficking in 2023 with more than 2,000 victims identified. If received, the grant would allow for Crime Stoppers and the Washington County Sheriff's Office to obtain software to receive tips on human trafficking cases, send out push notifications to the public and receive funding for training on human trafficking.
