Pawhuska Public Schools will receive more than $1 million from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to replace some of the district’s older school buses.

The rebate is part of the EPA’s 2023 Clean School Bus Program competition. The rebate will help the school district purchase “clean school buses,” some of which will be electric, to accelerate the transition to zero emission vehicles. The competitive grant program was established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, which was passed by Congress in 2021.

The EPA says more than $10.3 million was awarded to various school districts in Oklahoma, which will be used to purchase 44 buses statewide to replace older, diesel fueled school buses.
