The OKM Music Festival is the Bartlesville event that has been held each June for 40 years. It was named for the Austrian classical composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

During the years, programs expanded to include everything from classical and contemporary music to bluegrass, gospel and popular music. As the festival continued to evolve and bring on more variety in music genres, the time was ripe for a name change.

In 2017, the OK Mozart Music Festival became known as OKM Music, still retaining its early heritage with OKM, but going a step further to include all music.

Appearing on COMMUNITY CONNECTION, OKM's Jecell Dobson, Corianna Hong and Briana Warren shared with the audience all the wonderful events for children with Especially for Kids and the festival itself.

OKM Music Festival kicks off on Friday, June 7th with Jecelle Dobson opening for the Manhattan Chamber Players at Woolaroc Museum & Wildlife Preserve. Gates open at 5:30pm.

On Saturday, June 8th, at Cascia Hall Performing Arts Center , it's a VIP Receptionat 6pm with the Tulsa Honors Orchestra - Youth String Orchestra. At 6:30pm, The general admission doors open for pianoist Jenny Lin & Adam Tendler for their show at 7pm.

The finale will be held on Sunday, June 9th, at 6pm The Refinery at The Johnstone-Sare Building in Bartlesville. The show stars the Tulsa Quartet and the Escher Quartet.

ESPECIALLY FOR KIDS STARTS THIS WEEKEND

At OKM Music, they hope to bridge the music gap in our public schools and engage children in the arts while increasing awareness of the importance of arts education.

OKM Music believes all children should have access to the enriching qualities of music education and they live that part of their mission with the yearly Especially for Kids events each summer.

Two events on Friday, May 31st, get things rolling for OKM's children's programs. At noon on Friday is the free event, The Keyboard Orchestra, at First Presbyterian Church in Bartlesville at 505 S. Dewey Avenue. Then, on Friday evening at Sunfest at the bandshell at 6pm, it's the free Dancing Eagles event at Sooner Park.

Please view the available events and RSVP to www.okmmusic.org for your children. Their is no cost for most of the events, but they need to know how many kid plan to attend for space and material needs.
