Longtime Washington County Court Clerk Jill Spitzer made the decision earlier this year to not run for re-election after 12 years in office.

She says it was a tough decision to make, but she wanted to have more time with her family.

Spitzer was first elected in 2012 during the Republican primary facing one challenger. She was unopposed in the 2016 election, but drew one challenger in 2020.

Spitzer says she is going to miss everyone she works with and thanked the electorate for allowing her the opportunity to serve the county.

Although she is retiring from public officer, Spitzer says she won't be slowing down very much.

Republican Jean Davis was the only candidate who filed to replace Spitzer. Davis will take office in January 2025.
