Washington County has been included in a disaster declaration from FEMA, opening up individual assistance from the federal government following the May 6 tornado.

Washington County Emergency Management Deputy Director Melissa Mayes said teams from FEMA will be in the area beginning Thursday to start the process of individual assistance.

Mayes says that the teams will be in any area where tornado damage was found in Washington County, from where the twister entered the county near Gap Road, all the way through to when it lifted near Bison Road and Durham Road. She says more information will be released as it is available.
