Street Closures Planned for ODOT Sidewalk Project

Several Bartlesville streets along south U.S. Highway 75 will be closed intermittently over the next several weeks to accommodate the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s ongoing sidewalk installation project.
City of Bartlesville Director of Engineering Micah Siemers says the ODOT project involves installing sidewalk on both sides of Highway 75 from Camelot Drive to Green Country Village. Work began earlier this month at the south end of the project area and has progressed to the north.
“As part of the project, the ODOT contractor has to replace street and driveway approaches onto Highway 75 to make the crossings ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant,” Siemers said. “While there was an initial attempt to leave these lanes partially open during the project, it has created conflicts with ingress and egress on these streets.”
He says the affected side roads will be closed while work is ongoing in each area.
“They are using high early-strength concrete so the streets can be opened within 24 hours of pouring the concrete, so these closures shouldn’t be for long periods of time,” Siemers said. “And there are other points of access to the highway for all of the streets involved, so minimal disruption is expected.”
Siemers says the contractor plans to finish work at Barnett, Harvey, Wayside and Lester this week and should start work on Morgan on Monday, Oct. 30.
“Morgan will be closed for a couple of days while they complete the work,” he said.
Siemers says ODOT has agreed to inform city staff when closures will occur. The information will made available to local media and posted on the city’s Facebook page and in the city’s e-newsletter, "City Beat."
“We should know a week ahead of time when these closures are set to occur, and we will notify the public accordingly,” Siemers said.
The project has a 120-day contract duration, but ODOT hopes to complete the work by the end of the year, Siemers says.
