Monday means it is time for a Patriot Family of Autos Athlete of the Week. It is another softball player, this time from Dewey, Maycee Smith.

Smith has been a mainstay on the Lady Bulldogger softball program over the past four years. She is a 13-year softball veteran and a four-year varsity player, and led the entire state in steals this season with 47 total.

Smith talks about her softball career up until this point.

Although she had some opportunities to play in college if she wishes, Smith says she has decided to focus on her schooling instead of pursing a continuation in her softball career.

Smith says collegiate softball would eat up a lot of her time, and although her family likes to watch her play, it was a short conversation.

Smith’s parents are Kim and Dustin Smith, who both work at Tri County Tech. As mentioned, Makenna Smith is her older sister, who was also a fellow Lady Bulldogger softball player. Makenna and Maycee played two years of softball together at Dewey.

The Lady Bulldoggers had their season come to an end over the weekend, losing to Miami twice in the 4A Regionals. Dewey forced a second regional title game on Thursday but lost in the finale to the Wardogs, 13-1.

Smith says playing softball for the final time this season has taught her to have some perspective on the big picture of things.

Smith says she plans to go to Oklahoma State next year but plans on going to an official visit this month. Congrats to Maycee Smith, our Patriot Athlete of the Week.
