Osage County Sheriff Eddie Virden has created a National BTK Task Force to provide assistance in the long-standing Cynthia Dawn Kinney cold case from 1976, located in Pawhuska.

This task force will attempt to leverage the expertise and resources of law enforcement agencies from Oklahoma, Kansas, and various federal entities and solve the Kinney case.

The joint efforts between the agencies involved hope to yield progress in resolving not only the Kinney case but also in addressing other cold cases that have been revealed during the course of the initial investigation. Initial findings indicate potential links between Dennis Rader, also known as BTK and additional missing and murdered persons.

Some of the agencies and individuals involved in this task force include the United States Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of Oklahoma, Kansas Department of Corrections, Former U.S. Attorney Francey Hakes and Undersheriff Gary Upton.

The Osage County Sheriff’s Office has scheduled a press conference for 2 p.m. and we will provide an update from that later today.
