A Dewey woman is being charged elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation contrary to Oklahoma State Statute. Ashley Hamblin was seen in Washington County Court on those alleged charges from 2022 this Wednesday afternoon. According to an affidavit, a welfare check was done in December 2022 on the victim in this case which resulted in the discovery of the following: The victim had health issues, communication problems, mobility, and dexterity issues due to a past stroke.

The allegation of exploitation was substantiated according in the police report, which states that Hamblin had checks written to her from the victim over the past two years that totaled $17,689. There were also signs of neglect of the victim due to appearing “filthy and malnourished.” Affidavit also states that Hamblin and her husband were living in the victim’s home under their name.

The victim was moved out of the home and into protective custody after it appeared that the victim had not been cared for in any sense of the word. The victim did not know the date, time, or year, and the victim’s socks were crusted with dog feces, which was discovered in piles all throughout the home. The victim also appeared to not have been cleaned in a while. Police reported that she appeared distant and unfamiliar with her surroundings.

Mold was found in the victim’s kitchen and bedroom walls, bed, and flooring.  It appeared that she had not been given her daily medicine as prescribed to her by her doctor. The bed had no sheets or blankets but had puppy pad sized material on the mattress. The victim would suffer another stroke at the hospital in December due to the lack of care from Hamblin.

Hamblin was given a court date of September 8th and her bond was set at $25,000.
