Changes to City Hall hours starting Sept. 18 will offer the public expanded access Monday through Thursday and provide employees more work-life balance by closing early on Fridays, City Manager Mike Bailey said this week.

"Beginning Sept. 18, City Hall will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday," Bailey said. "The decision to implement this schedule — at least on a trial basis — was made after thoughtful consideration of the public's needs and how we can best accommodate those needs while offering more work-life balance for our City Hall employees."

The city's Human Resources Director Laura Sanders says the city, like other larger employers, consistently seeks new and innovative ways to better appeal to a changing workforce, and flex time has been shown to be important in retaining and attracting employees.

"We are working to incorporate more flex time for employees into the departments where it is applicable," she said. "Closing City Hall at 11:30 on Fridays is one way of doing that, and the expanded hours Monday through Thursday will maintain our 40-hour work week for non-exempt employees, in addition to giving the public expanded access on the days when most business is conducted at City Hall."

City Hall is located at 401 S. Johnstone Ave. in downtown Bartlesville.
