Excessive Heat Warnings Continue
Nathan Thompson
Excessive heat warnings continue for northeast Oklahoma and southeast Kansas throughout much of the week.
News on 6 Chief Meteorolist Travis Meyer says it is a particularly dangerous pattern for heat-related illnesses.
Excessive heat warnings are in effect through at least Wednesday. The National Weather Service says dangerously hot conditions with heat index values of 110 to 120 degrees will be likely. Overnight low temperatures will remain warm, especially across urban areas, providing little to no heat stress relief.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
Heat stroke is an emergency, call 911.
