The Nowata Ironmen and Lady Ironmen were in Colcord this Saturday in an elimination contest and an opportunity to go to area. We’ll start with the Lady Ironmen, they were leading at the half, only to see that lead fizzle away in the fourth quarter. In what was a very close contest, the lady Ironmen lost to Choteau-Mazie, 44-41.
On the guys side, it was a heart breaking regulation buzzer-beating loss to the Warner Eagles, 50-48. The Ironmen lead at the half 32-28 and were firing on all cylinders after the first two frames. The third quarter though saw Skylar Stevens picking up his fourth foul which forced Ironmen Coach Nate Smith to sit Stevens until halfway through the final frame.
The Eagles would take advantage of Stevens absence, as they came all the way back from as much as an eight-point deficit in the third. Chelo Prince would do what he could to keep them in it in Stevens absence, including this lay-up to push the lead back to four in the fourth quarter.
It would come down to the final seconds, where the Eagles would get a rebound put-back for the win.
Both the Ironmen and Lady Ironmen basketball season will end in heartbreaking fashion, both just one game short of Area. Ironmen end the season as conference and District Champs and a 20-7 record. The Lady Ironmen finish at 13-13, and go 7-3 in their last 10 games of the season.
