Oklahoma Wesleyan is our last local basketball team still alive. The Eagles were crowned Park City regional champions on Saturday after beating Science & Arts of Oklahoma 100-73. OKWU also beat Park (Mo.) in the opening round 93-65.

The Eagles relied heavily on their bench over the weekend. Wesleyan’s second unit scored 120 points in two games over the weekend. Sharpshooters Dylan Phillip and Lense Ramey went a combined 19-27 on three-pointers. Ramey says a solid week of preparation was the key.

The Eagles now set their sights on Lewis & Clark State (ID.) who was set as the No. 3 seed prior to the round. OKWU is the No. 14 seed. A victory would mark OKWU’s first trip to the national quarterfinals since 2011.

LCS is led by Austin Johnson, a 2008 OKWU grad who played in a national tournament for the Eagles.

Friday’s game is set for 3:45 p.m. from the Kansas City Municipal Auditorium. More coverage on OKWU in the national tournament in the days to come.
