The Caney Valley football program is buzzing after a 28-6 win over Chelsea on Friday. This is the Trojans first district win since 2017. Quarterback Zak Wallis had a career night with 301 yards and three passing touchdowns. Seth Gilbreath was on the receiving end of two of the touchdowns.

The Trojans top-tier defense flex its muscle as it shut down a potent Chelsea ground game. In all three of its wins Caney Valley has held the opponent under 10 points. Head coach Stephen Mitchell was pleased with last week’s effort.

Now the Trojans play a rare non-district contest late in the season. Class-A district 6 has only seven teams which frees up one week of the schedule. The Trojans will face North Rock Creek, an emerging school near Shawnee, Oklahoma. Just because this game won’t count toward the playoffs, don’t expect the Trojans to take it lightly.

Caney Valley is 3-3 overall and 1-2 in district play. Kickoff for Thursday night’s game is set for 7 p.m.
