Dewey Hopes to Continue Recent Success Against Vinita

The Dewey Bulldoggers are hoping to carry momentum from last week’s win over Riverton this week. Dewey hosts Vinita for their annual non-district contest on Friday.
The Doggers made big plays in the second half of the ballgame last week including a big fourth down stop in the redzone that turned into a 94-yard touchdown a few plays later. Dewey head coach Trent Turner liked his team’s presence in those situations.
The Dewey defense will be challenged against Vinita. So far, the unit has allowed 76 points in two games played. That group will have to stop Kyron Downing, a Hornets junior who already has over 30 career touchdowns. Downing had a 70-yard touchdown reception against the Doggers last year. Turner says improving the fundamentals will aid the Dewey defense.
Dewey has topped the Hornets in three of the last four seasons. However, Vinita has dominated the all-time series with a 16-4 record. At one point Dewey lost 13 straight games in the series.
