Week 8 represents an opportunity for the Dewey Bulldoggers to punch their ticket to the Class 2A playoffs for the first time since 2016. The Doggers host a winless Caney Valley team on Friday night. Dewey could clinch its first regular season over .500 since 2009 as well if the team can win it’s sixth game. Dewey head coach Trent Turner says the playoffs were always a reality.

Dewey has shown an offensive prowess this season and that is a key reason why the team has achieved so much. The Doggers average over 30 points per contest. Senior wide receiver Hayden Thornton has been an integral part of the unit. Thornton has over 500 yards of offense and seven touchdowns on the season. Turner says Thornton’s defense could be more impressive.

The Trojans have struggled vastly over the last two years. Caney Valley has lost 14 straight games. The Trojans are a young football team with nearly 50% of their roster comprised of freshman.

You can listen to this area battle on KRIG 104.9 FM. Radio coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.
