Crime Stoppers Honors Area Police Officers

Northeast Oklahoma Crime Stoppers honored twelve members of the Washington and Nowata County law enforcement community Friday night at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bartlesville. The non-profit organization held its Law Enforcement Appreciation Night.
Four members of the Bartlesville Police Department were on the list of honorees. The Officers of the Bartlesville K-9 unit topped the list -- Officer Troy Newell and his K-9, Apollo and Officer Andrew Ward and his K-9, Diesel. Tammie Long was named Dispatcher of the Year and Captain Jerry Kelley was named the Reserve Officer of the Year. Officer Travis Williams received the Ramona Police Officer of the Year.
Nowata County Deputy Jeff Grissom was honored at the Deputy of the Year and the South Coffeyville Officer of the Year was Officer Roger Carroll. Officer of the Year from the Nowata Police Department was Cheyenne Lee.
Captain Bob Burke is the Officer of the Year from the Dewey Police Department. Three member of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department were honored. Sgt. Jon Copeland was named Deputy of the Year, Reserve Deputy of the Year honors went to Captain Bill Hewitt, and Corporal Mitch Doyle was named the Detention Officer of the Year.
Co-Founder of Crime Stoppers USA, Retired Judge Richard Carter gave the keynote address. Sponsors of the event included State Senator John Ford, State Representatives Earl Sears and Travis Dunlap, Doenges Family of Autos, and the Cherokee Casino Ramona.
Crime Stoppers board members indicated that the event was extremely well received by the community and they intend to make the Law Enforcement Appreciation Night an annual event.
