Caney’s football team triumphed over Riverton with a 48-28 victory last week, advancing to a playoff round they haven’t reached since 2022. A pivotal momentum shift occurred just before halftime, following a key defensive stop and turnover by Caney, according to head coach Chris Davis.

After entering the second half with adjustments, including switching from a five-man to a four-man front, Caney’s defense found new energy. “We had to make some changes at halftime, and it was the right one,” Davis said, crediting his assistant coaches for the suggestion. The adjustment freed up linebackers and increased pressure on Riverton’s quarterback, ultimately helping to secure the win.

Offensively, Caney’s game plan relied on quarterback Lane Denny and a powerful rushing attack led by Tractant, Buckley, and the unselfish play of Boone White. Davis praised White’s versatility, noting his key role in both blocking and rushing.

As Caney prepares to face Osage City, a team with a 9-1 record, Davis emphasized the importance of minimizing turnovers and maintaining strong defense. “We know that’s going to be a battle… we’ve got to play solid defense,” he stated. Osage City was ranked as high as number two for most of the season, setting the stage for a tough playoff showdown.
