Oklahoma Wesleyan Basketball started out the New Year on a good note on Wednesday afternoon in Nebraska. Both the Lady Eagles and the Eagles picked up wins in their first conference double-header of 2019 and on the longest road trip of the year.

The men stayed undefeated, although it was not always easy. OKWU topped York 68-62. The Eagles had an eight-point lead at halftime, but were outscored in the second half to win by only six points.

Joshua Wilchombe led the Eagles with 16 points and added 16 rebounds. Elbert Lawrence and KJ Malveau also finished in double figures. OKWU got the win despite shooting only 24-percent from three. The Eagles were 6-25 on Wednesday. They are shooting 38-percent from beyond the arc this year.

Wesleyan is still perfect at 16-0 on the year, and still leads the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference by one game over Southwestern College.

The Lady Eagles also picked up a blowout win over York, 77-46.

Danae Goodwin and Ashley Cook were the only Wesleyan women that finished in double figures. Former Lady Bruin Lauren Richter had 10 rebounds.

Both Oklahoma Wesleyan teams are off until Saturday when they return home to face Ottawa for a double-header that is scheduled for 3:00 PM.

We will carry both the women and the men on Saturday on 99.1 FM – KPGM.
