Warriors Split With Vinita

The Bartlesville Safari Smiles Warriors split a double header Friday night at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium against the Vinita Hornets. 

Vinita shut out the Warriors 6-0 despite a wonderful pitching performance by Colton Lewis, who went the distance gave up one earned run on seven hits, walked two, and struck out nine.

In the second game, the Warriors led 7-3 going into the top of the fifth when Vinita scored four runs to tie the game at seven.  The contest went into extra innings as both teams had opportunities to win.  The game went into the bottom of the seventh when Warriors Myson Van Winkle brought in the game winning hit with a double to bring home Jacob Martz from first base.

Van Winkle was a home run away from the cycle as he went 3 for 4 with a single, double, and a triple and a RBI.  Hunter Stoops went 3 for 4 with a RBI.  Stoops came in relief for starter Jacob Martz in the top of the fifth and got the win as he gave up no runs, no hits, and struck out six batters.  As a pitching staff, the Warriors struck out 15 batters and out hit Vinita 14-5.

Warriors improve to 4-4 overall this season and will next be in action next Tuesday at Skiatook.  Game time is 5:30 P.M.
