Upstart Caney Valley Team Gearing Up for District Opener

Caney Valley football is one the surprise teams around the area to start the 2020 season. The Trojans beat Liberty 28-7 last week to notch their second victory of the season. The 2-1 non-district record is a huge feat for CV given it had just one victory over the previous two seasons. Head coach Stephen Mitchell says being over .500 is a great feeling.

A Dillon Lucas 91-yard fumble recovery touchdown tilted the game towards the Trojans. Jeff Childress and Daniel Barham each added rushing touchdowns as well.

The Trojans now gear up for a tricky district schedule in their first year in Class-A District 6. Of the seven teams in the district, all but Chouteau-Mazie (0-2) have registered at least two victories so far. Mitchell gives his report on A-6 so far.

The Trojans will face Woodland on the road this week. The Cougars are the only team in the district to start 3-0. Woodland earned a surprising 34-30 victory over Oklahoma Union in week one. This Friday’s trip to Fairfax will be the Trojans third straight road game. Caney Valley will be at home for four of its final six games after this week four contest.
