Trojans Look to Improve Heading into Bye Week

The 2019 season did not get off to an ideal start for the Caney Valley Trojans as they fell to Barnsdall, 69-6 last Friday. The Trojans will now have their bye week before taking on Oklahoma Union in week 2. Caney Valley will look to learn from its mistakes after turning the ball over in opponent’s territory three times. Head coach Stephen Mitchell said he was generally pleased with the performance of freshman Quarterback Zak Wallis.

Wallis had his best throw on a 35-yard touchdown connection with senior wide receiver Hayden Wingo in the second quarter. Mitchell says having veteran receivers will help guide Wallis along.

Tackling will be an emphasis over the bye week. The Trojans defense continued a concerning trend of allowing at least 45 points for the seventh consecutive game dating back to last season. Caney Valley will be action next on September 13.
