The Caney Valley Trojans find themselves in the midst of trying portion of their schedule. Caney Valley just wrapped up a daunting stretch of three consecutive road games with a 76-0 loss to Beggs to fall to 0-2 in the pressure cooker that is 2A district 3.

The Trojans went to battle without their starting quarterback and were forced to play Trenton Meeks, a linebacker by trade, under center. Head coach Stephen Mitchell was happy with the performance from Meeks and praised the versatility of his players.

Even though they’ll be back home it won’t get any easier for the Trojans as they host an undefeated Sperry team that many publication have ranked in the top-five of Class 2A. The Pirates haven’t allowed more than two touchdown in any of their five wins this year.

Caney Valley stand at 2-3 themselves and will have to battle against stern competition for the rest of the year. Mitchell says his team has had its moments but he wants to see more consistency going forward.

The Trojans hos the Pirates this Friday at 7 p.m.
