Today in Sports History with some Oklahoma Ties… Happy 81st birthday to Hall of Fame Broadcaster Brent Musburger, who was born on this day in 1939.

Musburger worked in national broadcasting from 1973-2017 for both CBS and ABC. He is currently the managing editor at Vegas Stats and Information Network and is set to be the radio voice of the Las Vegas Raiders this fall.

Musburger has covered most big-time events in sports during his illustrious career, including the Super Bowl, World Series, NCAA Final Four, The Masters, Monday Night Football, the NBA Finals and many others.

The list includes several big moments for both Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. One of the best-known calls for Sooner fans came from Musburger in 2001, when Oklahoma safety Teddy Lehman had a pick-six that ended the 2001 Red River game in the Cotton Bowl.

Musburger was also on the call for the 1988 OU appearance in the NCAA Basketball Finals when the Sooners lost to KU.

The 2017 OU Sugar Bowl win over Auburn was his final college football game on ABC.
