The Oklahoma Union Cougars picked up where they left off to start the 2019 season. The Cougars edged out Nowata in a hard-fought 26-12 victory. It doesn’t get any easier for the Cougars as they take another tough area foe in Pawhuska coming up on Friday night.

Junior quarterback Mason Seigel made quite the impression in the opener as he compiled 173 total yards with three touchdowns. Seigel showed that he is one of the top dual-threat QB’s in the area. Cougars head coach Stephen Trammell credits diligent work in the offseason.

The Cougars have won six of their last nine ballgames dating back to the start of district play last season. OKU lost to the Huskies last season, 36-8. Seigel had not yet been moved to starting QB at that time in 2018.

Pawhuska boasts a top-tier QB as well in Bryce Drummond, another talented junior who racked up four rushing touchdown in a zero week win over Kellyville.

Two of the best quarterbacks in Class A will square off Friday night at 7 p.m. from Ormond Beach Stadium. Radio coverage can be heard on Sportstalk 99.1 FM KPGM.
