Sand Springs Sweeps Bartlesville

Coming off two good tournament performances over the weekend, both the Bruins and Lady Bruins fell short in close games at Sand Springs on Tuesday night.

The girls lost to the Sandites 47-41. It was an odd game from the start for BHS.

The girls have had a hard time finding much scoring outside of Hailey Tucker, and that continued early in the Sand Springs game. Tucker scored the first 20 points for Bartlesville, that was all the Lady Bruin points in the first half. Tucker kept BHS within striking distance while the offensive figured out the Sandite zone.

Tucker finished the game with 28 points. Rachel Behar scored the first points for BHS not from Tucker mid-way through the third quarter. Behar ended the game with six points of her own.

The BHS offense looked much better in the second half, but the Sandites kept up with Bartlesville. BHS led briefly in the fourth quarter. A three from Tucker with 5:00 remaining in the fourth quarter gave BHS a 39-38 lead. It didn't last long. BHS was only able to score two points in the final minutes.

Tucker fouled out of the game with under a minute to play. She was hit with a charging call while driving to the basket. That call gave the ball back to Sand Springs up by four.

The boys for BHS started out better than the girls, but ended the same, Bruins fell 56-52.

Bartlesville and Sand Springs were tied at 20 at halftime. The Bruins were playing their usual staunch defense. Behind nine points from Antonio Castillo Bartlesville cut into an early lead for Sand Springs.

The Bruins led early in the third quarter, but it was around that time that Sand Springs started to pull away. Big threes from freshman Brooks Haddocks kept Bartlesville at arms length. Both teams ramped up their offense in the second half, but BHS had trouble keeping pace.

Three-pointers from Lucas Rutter kept the Bruins in the game. Rutter finished with nine points on three made shots from behind the arc. However, AJ Parker was largely kept in check in the second half. AJ Archambo was in foul trouble throughout the fourth quarter, as well.

Bartlesville trailed by as much as nine with just over 3:00 left in the fourth quarter. Archambo hit a four-point play, scoring a three while being fouled, that briefly got BHS back to within five. Sand Springs always had an answer. The Sandites did keep the door open, while only making three of six free-throws down the stretch. But Keyle Keener and Haddocks both made them when they counted.

Castillo ended with 15 points on the night.
