If the fourth quarter in high school basketball was eight minutes and 30 seconds instead of just eight minutes, Bartlesville High might be playing for a state tournament berth on Saturday.

Sand Springs held on against a staunch Bruin defensive effort on Friday night in the area consolation bracket at Tulsa Memorial High School, as the Bartlesville High boy’s basketball team saw its season come to an end. A furious comeback attempt fell just short. Sand Springs topped the Bruins 67-63.

Bartlesville trailed the Sandites by 14 early in the fourth quarter, before the Bruins clamped down on defense. BHS forced seven straight Sand Springs turnovers to cut into the lead. This Andrew Gronigan three helped the Bruins climb back.

Bartlesville would get the Sand Springs lead down to three, and had two possessions with a chance to tie in the final minute, but couldn’t quite get it done. BHS ends the season 9-17. Taya Dina and Jaylin Oliver led the Bruins in scoring, Dina finished with 24, while Oliver had 21.

Seniors Jake Bilger, Abhi Ayyappan and Gronigan played their final game in a Bruin uniform.

Sand Springs will play for a state tournament berth against Owasso on Saturday night at 6:30.
