Press Box in Need of Repair

The Bartlesville Public School’s bond issue is set to come to a vote in a week and a half, and we will continue our look at some of the endeavors that involved athletics.

The main athletic issue in the bond that has grabbed the most attention is the new press box at Custer Stadium. The current press box has been in place since the original Custer Stadium was built in 1954.

That makes the structure 65 years old with no major upgrades. Private money has been raised to help with the cost, so the bond issue will only be for a portion of the building. The plans for a new box are to make a facility on par with the stadium, and functional for all the needs and events held at Custer. Bartlesville High Athletic and Activities Director Spence Rigdon talks about the possible new press box.

The new press box would allow for BPS to host band competitions, something that it is not able to do currently. The addition of an elevator would make the box ADA compliant and would help with concession stand loading.

It would include a small restroom and a small hospitality room. Full plans for the press box can be found online at BruinBond.com.

The vote is coming up on August 13.
