Pawhuska Football Looking For Players

We are continuing our look back at spring practices for high school football across the region. All area teams wrapped up spring ball in late May.

At Pawhuska High, Joe Tillman is setting set for his second season as head coach of the Huskies. Pawhuska went 2-7 during his first season in 2016.

Tillman is trying to build the program from the ground up. Numbers of guys trying out during spring practice earlier this month fluctuated. Tillman had only nine or 10 guys out the second week. Tillman says that getting the community and the boys at PHS to buy into the program is key.

Tillman was upbeat about the players that joined in for the second week of spring practices.

Pawhuska High is currently constructing a new weight lifting room that should be completed by the middle of June. If construction goes according to plan it should be ready for the summer pride program. Tillman says the new weight room will hopefully work as a recruiting tool for players to put on some muscle this offseason.

Pawhuska will open up the season in late August against Kellyville.

More on other high school football teams and their spring recaps in the coming days.
