The Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball teams came back from Kansas Wesleyan with a split on Wednesday night. The men’s team surged in the second half to win 85-56 while the women’s team had potential game-winning shot miss the mark.

The Lady Eagles led 27-24 at halftime but were outscored by 13 points in the third period. OKWU would rally from behind to have a chance in the finals seconds. Down 53-51 Wesleyan had a chance but an inbounds play went poorly and the final shot didn’t draw iron. The Lady Eagles fall to 10-11 on the season.

The fifth-ranked Eagles overcame a disastrous to earn their 20th win of the season. OWKU went down 12-2 in the first five minutes after turning the ball over nine times. The Eagles would rally and take a 38-32 lead into the locker room. OKWU would then bolt out to a 21-0 run over the first six minutes of the second half. Brandon Bird helped build the run with this fastbreak bucket.

Bird led the team with 17 points. The Eagles have now won 20 games in all five seasons since Donnie Bostwick returned to Bartlesville. OKWU remains first in the KCAC and still holds a multi-game lead on the rest of conference.

Both teams are slated for their first home action in two weeks as Avila University comes to Bartlesville on Saturday.
