OKWU Softball Splits With Southwestern College

After sweeping Haskell Indian Nations University Wednesday afternoon, Oklahoma Wesleyan University Lady Eagles softball team traveled to Winfield, Kansas to take on Southwestern College Thursday afternoon.  Southwestern took game one 4-3, but the Lady Eagles took revenge and won the second game 9-5.

The Lady Eagles got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning scoring all their three runs to take a 3-0 lead.  Southwestern came back scoring three runs to tie the game at three.  OKWU never would score again as Southwestern scored the winning run in the bottom of the six to take the first game. Makayla Kelly in relief of Jenna Daniel took the loss on the mound.  In five innings of work, Kelly gave up a run on four hits.  Courtney Gilliland at the plate went 2 for 4 while Heather Jones, Hannah Sharum, Mariah Shepherd, Christie Bell, and Dakota Bottoms each got a hit.  Southwestern out hit the Lady Eagles 8-7.

OKWU took their frustrations in the second game and out hit Southwestern 17-13.  The Lady Eagles scored five of their nine runs in the top of the third inning to win game two.  Mykelti Sheldon got the win for the Lady Eagles.  In five innings of work, Sheldon gave up five runs on 10 hits and struck out two.  Gilliland went 4 for 5 in game two.  Shraum went 2 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI's while Jones went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's.  Selena Lopez, Bell, and Katelyn Cook went 2 for 4.  Dakota Bottoms went 2 fo3 while Shepherd got a double and 2 RBI's.

The Lady Eagles are 26-20 on the year.  OKWU will be home this Saturday afternoon as they will host Sterling College for Senior Day.
