OKWU Soccer Teams Finding Early Success

Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s soccer continues to roll after 7-1 victory at home over Bethel in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play last Friday. The win extends the Eagles streak to five consecutive after dropping the season opener.

The conference took notice after some incredible efforts over the weekend. Stefan Lukic was the named the Offensive Player of the Week and Julio Belo was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Lukic, a Serbian midfielder scored a goal in all three games played last week and also added six assists in the three victories.

Belo, a Brazilian midfielder help anchor a stout defense that only allowed two goals in three contests. The Eagle men play Columbia on Tuesday in a non-conference battle.

The Lady Eagles are also playing having won each of its first two conference games over Bethany and Bethel last week.

Marjolen Nekesa, a sophomore midfielder from Kenya was named offensive POY on the women’s side. Nekesa scored two goals against Bethany and then nearly ripped the back of the net with four goals in a win over Bethel.

The Lady Eagles will play next on Saturday at home against Sterling.
