There is good possibility that Oklahoma Wesleyan could have it first ever player selected in Major League Baseball’s draft this week. The draft starts with the first two rounds on Monday. Tuesday will bring rounds 3-10. With the last 30 rounds being held on Wednesday.

The Eagles top of the order duo of Austin Sojka and Drenis Ozuna are both on the radar of several MLB teams. Scouts from as many as nine MLB teams have flocked to Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium to watch the pair all season long. Eagles head coach Kirk Kelley says it would be a great honor for the school if either were selected.

Sojka drew national attention when he was selected to Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list, which honors the top 50 amateur baseball players in the country. Sojka was also named Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2019. The talent speaks for itself for shortstop from Huntington Beach, California. However, as a 23-year-old senior some pro teams may opt for younger talent when making selections.

As for Ozuna, he is only a junior but is eligible to be selected in the draft. He could opt to return to school as well. Ozuna hit 22 home runs in his first season with OKWU. His power bat and arm strength from the outfield make him a prospect several teams will consider as well. Ozuna is an Orlando, Florida native.

Kelley mentioned pitcher Michael Anderson has an outside shot of being taken as well. We will have more coverage of Eagles potentially going pro throughout the week.
