OKWU Basketball Opens Conference Play On The Road

Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball begins the marathon that is the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule on Wednesday. With the addition of Avila University out of Kansas City the conference now has 13 teams, which results in a 24-game conference schedule. The Eagles and Lady Eagles start the gauntlet with a road doubleheader against McPherson.

The men’s team has played without blemish in its first five games of the season. The sixth-ranked Eagles have taken advantage of a deep bench to keep everyone’s legs fresh throughout the non-conference season. The Eagles extreme balance has led to four different player’s scoring more than 10 points per game. Head coach Donnie Bostwick expands.

The Eagles beat McPherson by 16 points in both matchups last season. The Bulldogs are 3-1 thus far.

On the women’s side consistency is something OKWU is looking for. The Lady Eagles have had a different leading scorer in four of their first five games. OKWU returns just 28% of its scoring from last year’s team.

The Lady Eagles are currently 4-1 with a lone loss coming to Bellevue, Nebraska. Even though several new players are getting used to one another on the court, head coach Mark Molder says it is already a tight-knit group.

The Lady Bulldogs are 5-0 on the year. OKWU and McPherson split the season series last year with each side winning on its home floor.

Coverage from McPherson will get underway at 6 p.m. Both games can be heard on 99.1 FM KPGM.
