If pitching wins titles, then Oklahoma Wesleyan is in good shape.

The OKWU baseball team started the NAIA Baseball Tournament off with a bang on Monday evening, as the Eagles blasted the host-club Taylor, Indiana 13-2 in the opening round of the Upland, Indiana Regional.

Wesleyan put the game away early, OKWU scored two in the first, four in the third and two more in the fourth to lead 6-0 by the middle innings.

As it as all season long, pitching led the way. Eagle starter Ryan Sandifer scattered nine hits over eight innings, he gave up just one earned run while striking out four and walking one. The Eagles continue to lead the country in ERA at 2.30 in 2018.

OKWU (52-6) moves on to the second round of the tournament on Tuesday afternoon with a 2:00 PM scheduled first pitch against Freed-Hardeman, Tennessee. Freed-Hardeman beat Cumberland, Tennessee on Monday 13-8 to advance to the winner’s bracket against the Eagles.

With the win, Wesleyan has won eight games in a row.
