OKU Ready for District Opener Against Afton

District play has finally arrived and Oklahoma Union has a chance to start the second season on the right foot with a home matchup against Afton. The Cougars shut out Afton 26-0 last season before making a playoff push. The Eagles are 1-1 on the season and have gone 6-16 since winning the Class A state championship in 2017.

Oklahoma Union is coming off a bye last week. The Cougars went just 1-2 in non-district play with a win over Nowata and losses to Woodland and Tulsa NOAH. The Cougars offense has battled some inconsistency but still averages 28 points per game so far. Head coach Stephen Trammell talks about that unit from his perspective.

After holding Nowata to just six points the OKU defense has given up 34 points in back-to-back contests. The Cougars should be a bit more healthy on both sided of the ball coming out of the bye week. OKU hosts Afton for its second home game of the year at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
